In the Grape of Wrath, the tractor is symbolized as being the dominant and great power in the dust bowl society. Although we know the source of corruption and evil in the Grapes of Wrath are the banks, the tractors represent the tool the banks use to suppress and throw farmers off their rightful land. In today's world environmental issues seem to be problematic everywhere, but are power plants the new tractors? And are the governments the ones that are the evolved form of the banks we see in the Grapes of Wrath? As the American character has changed in modern day, does this mean the source of evil has too?
